RV Adventures To The Best Fall Foliage
It is the time of year for pumpkin spice, hot cocoa, the feeling of coolness in the air and wearing your favorite sweater! Fall also brings on the most beautiful scenery as the leaves begin to change colors. Living in an RV makes traveling to amazing fall destinations possible. The Appalachian Mountains
This mountain range goes through Virginia and the Shenandoah National Park. As the cool weather begins in late September and early October the leaves begin to change and it is transformed into a magical place. The drive along the Skyline Drive brings you to breathtaking vistas. There are a few campgrounds within the park to bring you even closer to the beauty.
The Appalachian Mountains also go through Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. There are a few great drives within the park as well as some great hiking opportunities. The Look Rock Tower and the Sutton Ridge Overlook are moderate hikes for you to enjoy the fall temperatures as well as all of the fall colors. There are many camping locations within the park.
A great drive is through Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina along the Blue Ridge Parkway within the Appalachian Mountains. It is a 469 mile route that meanders through some of the most spectacular scenery in America.
New England States
Vermont is one of the top locations for looking for fall colors. In the fall, Smuggler’s Notch Pass is stunning. The Notch Road is narrow and windy, but it has maple trees that show some of the most amazing shades of red and yellow. Quechee State park has a 165 ft deep gorge that has maple trees on both sides. There is a 2.7 mile trail to access the gorge and there is a campground within the park.

Fall in the New England states can offer great opportunities to hike. In Maine, you can go on one of the 120 miles of hikes within Acadia National Park. The hikes can range from a stroll in the park to a strenuous climb, but the rewards are so worth it. The town of Bar Harbor is a great starting point with several camping options nearby.
A spectacular drive through the New England area is the Mohawk Trail. On this 60 plus mile drive you will encounter small towns as it goes along rivers and some of the most beautiful fall scenery in this part of America.
The Wild, Wild West
Although our minds always think that the only place to see great fall foliage is in the north eastern part of America, there are some great locations out west. Fall is an amazing time to visit Colorado. One great place to travel to is Aspen. Hiking is a great way to see the colors of Maroon Bells. The area is filled with Aspen trees up in the summit alpine tundra. There are also great biking trails and camping opportunities in the area.
Oregon is another state where you can see some amazing colors as the leaves begin to change colors. The Columbia River Gorge is an area full of color and activities to keep you busy. Just standing along the gorge will bring your mind to how Lewis and Clark came up this mighty river and made their way to the Pacific Ocean. The area is breathtaking, with waterfalls, vistas and pullouts to just sit and enjoy. Finding fun campgrounds in the area is part of the adventure.
The Million Dollar Highway is a great way to see some of the best fall colors in the western part of America. This road has million dollar views around every corner. It does climb up to 11,018 feet and there are several windy roads without guard rails, so there is that! A 25 mile drive along this road will give you an experience you will remember for a lifetime.
